⛵️ CAN YOU GUESS THIS ISLAND? 🇬🇷

Just across the Aegean from Kardamena, there’s a small Dodecanese island that makes a fascinating day excursion.

The photo shows its peaceful harbour… but what's the island’s name. 😉

Here are your clues:

♻️ A WORLD FIRST
It became the world’s first certified Zero Waste island, pioneering recycling, reuse and circular waste management. 🌍

🐘 TINY ELEPHANTS?!
Yes! Fossils discovered in a cave reveal that dwarf elephants once lived here — among the last dwarf elephants known in Europe. 🐘

⛪ MONASTERIES & HISTORY
Explore historic churches and monasteries, including a spectacular centuries-old monastery tucked into the mountainside.

🏚️ A GHOST VILLAGE
There’s even an abandoned medieval village waiting to be explored.

🌿 WILD & AUTHENTIC
Think rugged mountains, quiet beaches, traditional villages and a much slower rhythm of Greek island life.

🚢 And the adventure can begin with an excursion from Kardamena.

So… which island are we looking at? 👀

⛵ SAIL BEYOND KOS 🇬🇷

From Kardamena Port, the adventure doesn’t end at the shoreline. This is your gateway to discovering more of the Dodecanese. 🌊☀️

Step aboard a sailing boat and head across the blue Aegean towards two very different island experiences:

🌋 Nisyros — famous for its impressive volcano, traditional villages and dramatic landscapes.

Some places don’t need a name. 🌊🌿

Just find a table beneath the trees, order something cold and let the Aegean do the rest. 💙

🔐 UNLOCK KOS | Season 1 🇬🇷

You think you know Kos? Think again. 👀

Yes, Kos has beautiful beaches. 🌊
Yes, it has sunshine. ☀️
And yes… the food is pretty hard to resist. 😋

But that's only the beginning.

In UNLOCK KOS — Season 1, we go beyond the usual holiday guide to discover the stories hiding behind the island.

🏛️ We met Hippocrates, born on Kos more than 2,400 years ago.

🩺 We explored the ancient Asklepieion, where healing, religion and medicine came together.

🧀🍷 We discovered Krasotýri, Kos's distinctive cheese matured in wine lees.

☕ We learned how Greeks survive those hot summer afternoons: Freddo or Frappé?

🔥🌊 We stepped into the naturally hot waters of Therma.

🏚️ We wandered through the almost-abandoned village of Haihoutes.

⛰️ We climbed towards Mount Dikaios and discovered a completely different side of Kos.

🇬🇷 And along the way, we learned a little Greek too.

But perhaps the most important lesson came last:

ΣΙΓΑ-ΣΙΓΑ 💙

Sigá-sigá.

Slowly. Little by little. Don't rush.

Because Kos isn't an island you should simply tick off a list.

Taste it. Explore it. Talk to people. Get lost occasionally. Stay for sunset. And take your time.

There is much more to Kos than what you see from your sunbed.

You just have to unlock it. 🔐🇬🇷

🎬 10 episodes. 10 discoveries. One island.

🔐 UNLOCK KOS — SEASON 1

One island. A thousand stories.

👇 Which Season 1 discovery surprised you the most?

And if you've just found us: start with Episode #01 and unlock Kos with us.

🔐 UNLOCK KOS #06 ☕🇬🇷

It's 32°C. You're sitting by the sea on Kos.
You need coffee.
But which one? 👀

🧊 FREDDO ESPRESSO

Espresso shaken with ice until cold, usually topped with a light layer of foam.

Strong. Cold. Simple.

OR…

🥤 FRAPPÉ

Instant coffee, water and ice shaken into that unmistakable thick foam.

A Greek summer classic. 🇬🇷

And there's a third favourite you'll see everywhere:

☕ FREDDO CAPPUCCINO

Cold espresso topped with cold, creamy milk foam.

Now let's actually order one in Greek:

🇬🇷 Ένα φρέντο εσπρέσο, παρακαλώ.

Éna fréddo espréso, parakaló.

👉 “One freddo espresso, please.”

That's a sentence you can genuinely use five minutes after arriving on Kos. 😎

And remember Episode #01?

The waiter asks:

“Medium sugar?”

You reply:

Εντάξει! — Endáxi! 😉

🔐 UNLOCK KOS

One island. A thousand stories.

👇 Now choose your side:

TEAM FREDDO 🧊 or TEAM FRAPPÉ 🥤?

Next time we're leaving the café and heading for the sea…

…and I'll teach you the Greek words you'll actually need while exploring Kos. 🇬🇷

🔐 UNLOCK KOS #05 🧀🍷

What happens when Kos combines CHEESE + WINE?

You get one of the island's most distinctive flavours:

🇬🇷 Κρασοτύρι Κω — Krasotýri Ko

Also known locally as Týri tis Pósias — the cheese of posia.

But here's the interesting part…

The cheese isn't simply dipped into a glass of wine. 🍷

Traditionally, this white sheep's or goat's milk cheese is left to mature for at least a month in wine lees — known locally as posia.

That's what gives the outside its characteristic reddish colour and the cheese its distinctive aroma and flavour.

And this isn't just another Greek cheese.

🇪🇺 Since 2018, Krasotýri Ko has PGI status, officially linking it to Kos and its local tradition.

📍 When you're on Kos, look for it in local shops, wineries and traditional tavernas.

💡 CarpeDiem tip: Try it with local wine — or do it the Greek summer way and pair it with watermelon, melon or grapes. 🍉🍇

So now you know:

When Kos gives you wine…

make cheese. 😉

🔐 UNLOCK KOS #04 🏛️

Why did people come to Kos seeking healing more than 2,000 years ago?

The answer is hidden in the hills above Kos Town…

🇬🇷 The Asklepieion of Kos — Ασκληπιείο

This wasn't simply a temple.

It was a sanctuary dedicated to Asklepios, the ancient Greek god of healing, and became an important centre for healing and the teaching of medicine.

And the location is spectacular. 💙

Built into a green hillside, the complex rises across three terraces, overlooking Kos and the Aegean.

Imagine arriving here in antiquity:

🌿 surrounded by nature
🏛️ temples dedicated to healing gods
🩺 physicians and medical knowledge
🙏 religion and healing intertwined

Excavations have even uncovered ancient surgical instruments, statues and inscriptions at the site.

Standing here today, you're walking through one of the places that helped make Kos famous for medicine throughout the ancient world.

📍 Asklepieion of Kos
Around 3.4 km southwest of Kos Town.

And now we're leaving ancient medicine behind…

🧀 Because there's something on Kos that combines two things Greeks love: cheese and wine.

What happens when you put them together? 😉

🌅 When Kos turns golden…

There’s something magical about watching the sun slowly disappear behind Kalymnos. 🇬🇷✨

From the northern coast of Kos, the island rises across the Aegean while the sky changes from gold to orange, pink and deep blue. The sea becomes almost perfectly calm, the heat of the day fades, and for a few minutes everything seems to slow down.

No filter needed. No rush. Just the Aegean, Kalymnos on the horizon and another unforgettable Greek sunset. 💙
